Point of Presence
AccessKenya's Point of Presence (POP) is located in a data centre of one of the world's largest Internet Carriers (Tier 1) also known as a carrier of carriers in North America. This in effect makes AccessKenya a Tier 2 provider with superior reach to the Internet backbone and thereby inevitably significantly improving service to its clients.
The Infrastructure installed allows AccessKenya to provide specialized services to its clients such as IPLs (International Private Line) and MPLS VPN (Multi Protocol Label Switching Virtual Private Network). This allows companies to extend the reach of their networks beyond their headquarters while maintaining end to end quality of service. AccessKenya's POP has enabled a multibillion - dollar IT company to considerably improve its services to Kenya.
TATA PoP Partnership
The AccessKenya Group and TATA Communications signed an agreement in 2009 to bring to Kenya the first Tier 1 Provider PoP. As one of just a handful of Tier 1 Global Backbone Providers, Tata in conjunction with AccessKenya have deployed a PoP in one of AccessKenya's Nairobi Data Centres. This PoP is part of Tata's global network and hence it provides customers with the opportunity to connect to Tata's Global Network in Nairobi. Connectivity to the PoP is offered jointly by AccessKenya and Tata.
The key benefits of connecting to the PoP are as follows:
- Access to Tata's global Tier 1 backbone network providing fastest routing to your destination
- Choice of routing provided automatically with Seacom northbound and Seacom southbound both connected as well as a TEAMS connection
- Lower latencies to your destinations due to multiple paths to the Internet
As part of the agreement, AccessKenya is connected to the Tata PoP and is the launch customers of the PoP. All AccessKenya customers get the benefits of the PoP and Tata's Global Network.
Customers can receive this service by:
- Connecting to AccessKenya
- Purchasing capacity from the PoP directly in cases where customers have specific requirements that match the need to connect to the PoP.
