AccessKenya unveils e-PROMIS Kenya software to government
January 18, 2010 – The AccessKenya Group, the first publicly listed ICT Company and the leading technology experts in the country has today launched extensive training to all government ministries on e-ProMIS Kenya (Electronic Project Monitoring Information System) software. The training that will run from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd January was officiated by the Permanent Secretary, ministry of Finance, Joseph Kinyua and attended by the 42 Permanent Secretaries from all ministries, heads of ICT and Finance of all government ministries.
The e-ProMIS is a Monitoring and Evaluation system developed by Synergy International Systems, USA. AccessIT, (formerly Openview Business Systems), the technology arm of AccessKenya Group, partnered with Synergy to implement this solution for the Government Of Kenya. The e-ProMIS is based on Synergy’s IDM (Intelligent Data Manager) and proven Development Assistance Database (DAD) technology, which has been implemented for over 25 governments, and has been customised to meet the specific requirements of the Government of Kenya. This application will promote accountability and transparency of donor and government funded projects by tracking and analyzing aid flows and will be accessible online by all Kenyans.
Commenting at the opening session of the training workshop, Kris Senanu the MD of AccessKenya Group’s Internet Division, said it is an honour for AccessKenya to have been selected to provide this software to the government. “This is a very important initiative and milestone and of national interest and AccessKenya is pleased to be part of the pioneering process that will improve efficiency and accountability in government systems and thus help to restore confidence in the same.”
The training, which is taking place at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, Nairobi, is to help ICT and Chief Financial heads in all the 42 ministries in the Kenyan government know how to use the system and thus support the government to become more transparent and accountable.
AccessKenya won the tender from the Ministry of Finance to implement the software that will serve as the main database and reporting system for the Kenyan government, as well as the donor and NGO community. the software was developed and tested over the last 4 months. It will enable anyone from government, private sector and the general public to access details of donor and government funded projects online including commencement date, contractor in-charge, progress updates, cost, funds spent at particular stages and completion date.
The e-ProMIS Kenya software will serve as a reliable and credible source of information on overall donor and Local Government contributions to Kenya’s reconstruction, economic recovery and socio-economic development, as well as to support the Government in effectively managing development assistance and promoting the accountable and transparent use of resources.
“This is a pilot initiative by AccessKenya Group through its AccessIT division into Monitoring and Evaluation(M&E) Software implementation and the Group is currently in discussion to develop other key software for the government and other institutions to enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability in their operations. We believe that we have exceeded expectations with this initiative and are confident of getting to develop similar applications for other institutions further confirming that we are indeed the technology experts,” added Mr. Senanu.
The e-ProMIS Kenya system will allow the users to view data organized into lists, reports, charts. The training aims to familiarise government officials with the system is mandatory for all ministry heads of ICT and Finance and will end this Friday, January 22, 2010. Similar solutions have also been implemented in for the Indian and Rwandese Governments, private and public firms in the USA, among others.
